Have you seen this Google Doc that Shannon Miller started a couple of weeks ago?

It’s a great source of inspiration for those of you who may be getting started using Edmodo, so we thought it was worth sharing again.  We’ll highlight some of these at EdmodoCon on August 10 (by the way – have you submitted your presentation to ideas@edmodo.com yet? – don’t be shy!).

  • All Students are involved in Classroom Conversations by allowing other students to critique your work from your class or classes or around the state, country, or world
  • Allows a paperless Classroom as a cloud storage space.  Students are able to save a PowerPoint or Word document at school, work on it at home, and then upload it again to “hand in” at school.
  • “Alumni” group to help students transition from elementary to middle school or from middle school to high school
  • Art Critiques
  • Ask questions and get help from teacher and peers
  • Authentic Audience
  • Book Discussion
  • Calendar keeps assignments organized for teacher and students
  • Collaborative Note Taking
  • Communication tool for student(s) on homebound education for extended period of time due to illness
  • Connect with other Professionals
  • connecting students in different schools, states, and countries
  • Contact and text remind students of major assignments
  • Create an online scrapbook.  Students research a historical event or figure and find digital artifacts such as photos and articles.
  • Create connections– across classes who have the same teacher or across classes in a school, district, region, state, or across the world! Groups can be formed for common study of material, pen pals, reading groups, current events, etc.
  • Create small groups for students to prepare evidence for a debate or in-class trial. The affirmative and negative sides can share evidence in their own groups without fear that the other side will see their evidence.
  • Create small groups to work as peer review groups.  As students are working on projects, they can post their work to the small group to get feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Differentiation– use the small group feature to move students into and out of groups based on readiness and other factors and deliver appropriate questions to each small group. It’s very easy to move students into and out of small groups so no one is “stuck” in a group he/she doesn’t belong.
  • Eliminates excuses for being absent – still required to join online classroom
  • Embedding flashcards from quizlet/study stack for extra review time
  • Embedding Glogster poster files that contain other multimedia links.
  • Embedding presentation tools (glogster, voki, animoto, prezi, voicethread, word clouds)
  • Embedding Sketchcasts
  • Embedding softchalk lessons from soft chalk connect.
  • excellent for substitute teachers-kids already know the assignments
  • Field Trip Observation and Log
  • For educators– Edmodo is an amazing place to grow your PLN, share resources, and learn about teaching ideas from all over the world. You can join the communities on Edmodo and/or create communities for teachers in your school or district.
  • Giving positive reinforcement to students that appreciate it, but would rather hear      it/read it privately.  (Teaching to the multiple intelligences via Edmodo
  • Going paperless in a classroom
  • great for sending out professional development materials to faculty/staff.
  • Have older students serve as mentors for younger students. I used it for the Digital Citizenship Project: sophomores helped middle school students in avoiding and preventing Cyberbullying. Great conversations ensued.
  • Have student post ideas prior to an activity (make predictions) and then have students share MVP ( what did you learn statements) after an activity.
  • Have students obtain Creative Commons license for their original work and post it to Edmodo.

  • Homework help- Students can communicate with the teacher at home…there’s an “APP” for that!

  • I can also check in with the kids during their computer time if I’m away and answer any questions they have about their assignment live- especially now that Edmodo has an app for my iPhone and iPad
  • Intervention (RtI)– staff and administrators can create a group (or one for each student being put on an RtI plan) to communicate about and monitor students who are at-risk or in need of additional supports.
  • Keeping in touch with past students as they continue their education.
  • Kids could share strategies like math
  • Link relevant articles and use a commenting rubric to evaluate student comments
  • Links to www.quia.com review games or quiz/test
  • Message a group to work on Google Docs for a project or any other collaborative work
  • On-line classroom for teachers and students on snow days

  • Students can assist in flip teaching by posting short clips about various topics, bring the information back to class, and then practice the skill with the help of the teacher.
  • Students sharing new online educational games and building their library. Students shared numerous live webcams they found when studying our animal unit.

  • Upload book audio for a specific group or entire class
  • Upload resources into digital locker – Library
  • Use for school or district wide clubs like Robotics, Forensics, NHS, even sports teams. Coaches and sponsors can use the calendar for important dates/ matches/ meets/ games/ practices. If a practice is cancelled or moved students can receive an immediate text message so they know. Groups can also post results, pictures, etc.

    I can envision a great application for Edmodo with our worldwide  nature/environmental education project called BARK BUDDIES.  Our mission is to SPARK A NATURE-CHILD REUNION!   In conjuction with our upcoming TV series and website platforms, Edmodo would be a great branch for us to create a global tree where kids from all over the planet can share the fruits of their nature education experiences and mark the spot where they planted their very own live baby BARK BUDDIE tree to grow up with…all of the BARK BUDDIE TREEHOUSE CLUB kids can proudly display their journals, pictures and projects sprouting from the activities on the website and TV show. Edmodo can help the BARK BUDDIE TREES ROOT-4-KIDS!

    I’m no longer sure where you’re getting your information, but great topic. I needs to spend a while learning much more or working out more. Thanks for magnificent info I was in search of this information for my mission.
