So we snuck in a midnight release last night! Looks like many of you have already jumped in and started playing around with quizzes.  Tomorrow morning we’ll post a more detailed entry specifically focused on Quizzes, but this afternoon we want to give you a quick review of the new features we rolled out last night:

1.  Quizzes:  By popular demand, now you can create, assign and grade assessments using your own multiple choice, fill in the blank, short answer and True False questions.  Although our goal was to make it as simple and user friendly as possible, the new quiz feature has a lot of deeper functionality that we hope will make your assessments richer, while providing you greater efficiencies.  These features include: Ability to Re-take quizzes, Time limits, summary chart for each student’s quiz results, LaTex support (markup language for Math equations), and much much more.

2.  Updated Help Center:  We’ve redesigned the help center to provide you with easier access to the information you need, when you need it.  We’ll be updating the help center regularly with new information and content, so be sure to check it out regularly.

3.  Communities:  Based on feedback from teachers that they want communities to be a safe place to ask questions, share experiences and learn from each other, communities can now only be viewed by teachers and our publisher partners.  You’ll notice the link to communities is no longer available from student pages.

4.  About Us:  We’ve given our public pages a fresh new look. Get to know a bit more about the Edmodo team  – and feel free to click on our profile pics to link directly with any of us in Edmodo!

5.  Profile Photo-Cam:  Don’t have a pic for your profile?  No problem.  You can now take a picture right from your Edmodo settings page.  Simply select Account > Settings and you’ll see a “Take a Photo” link right about the profile picture area.

Hopefully this will provide a quick primer on the new features — stay tuned this week for more details and discussion on these new features! As always — please share your feedback!

  1. Mpatenaude says:

Can you demonstrate how to use LaTex to include math equations?  Can I include superscripts/subscripts easily – for chemical equations or scientific notation, for example?

  2. Csanders says:

Thanks for the improvements and update.  I’m trying to find the link for the fifth item in your blog entry – the profile photo-cam.  After entering Account > Settings, where exactly is this link for Take a Photo?  I don’t see it on that page.

    • Betsy says:

the link should be right above your picture.  However – your computer needs to have a webcam on it for it to work.  Do you know if you have a camera on your computer?

  3. Anonymous says:

I’m so excited to test the quiz feature. Thank you!

  4. KatieO' says:

My students asked if they can take their quiz on edmodo yet. So excited to tell ‘em tomorrow they can chose between pencil/paper and edmodo. Bells and whistles worth the wait- thanks!

  5. Mark says:

Ah, thank you so much for adding this feature – looks great! Two questions:

    1) Is there a way to provide quiz feedback, like if you want to tell students how they did or tell students which questions they missed/encourage them to re-take the quiz?

    2) Did the helpful “Return to Turned-In Assignments” navigation tool disappear?

Thank you and keep up the good work!

  6. Ms M Sallo says:

Is there a way to give students different versions of the test without preassigning what version each student gets? (A random quiz distributer?)

  7. Ahenry says:

I love the fact that you added quizes.  Now I only have to use this site and not quizstar and then enter the grades here.  One question:  Is it possible to change the point value of each question or the test itself??

  8. Ms. Q says:

Love the quiz feature. It would be SO helpful if notes could have titles the way assignments do.

Also, is there a reason you can’t see the text associated with a linked or uploaded assignment on the Edmodo Android app?

  9. Jayson says:

Hey edmodo!  I’m really excited to start rolling out edmodo to my 3 classes this year.  I hope hope hope in the near future that we can increase the point value of short answers.  Merely right or wrong is not enough for me to replace a traditional pencil paper.

  10. Guest says:

is it possible for students to make polls + quizzes as well?

  11. [...] weekend we released our new quiz feature.  Throughout the week we’ve received tons of great feedback on what you love about quizzes and [...]

  12. Steve Neufeld says:

Wonderful to have the QUIZ feature

    Two comments:

    1) Can you allow for multiple correct answers in the short answer options, or partial credit for some responses?
    2) Is it possible to allow an import from Hot Potatoes? The HotPot files are XML documents, which would make it possible. MOODLE has this feature — you can upload a HotPot HTML document, and MOODLE will track the user responses with the standard MOODLE quiz reporting and item analysis. However, in MOODLE you can also import the HotPot ‘master’ files, e.g. JCL, JQZ, etc.directly into the MOODLE quiz module, and the questions are added to the question bank.

  13. Sharon says:

I’ve just created a couple of quizzes. Other teachers, teaching the same subject, would also like to use these quizzes with their groups, (just and I’d like to use some of theirs). Is there a way to share quizzes between teachers? Thank you. I also have many hot potato quizzes that I’ve loaded into Moodle. Can this be done with Edmodo?

  14. thats a really cool feature if you dont have a profile pic. because almost everyone has a camera at home. thanks! -claire student of PBMS

  15. Andrew Skinner says:

Is there no longer real-time messaging in Edmodo?

  16. I cannot see the link for taking a profile photo even though my computer has a built in web cam. What do you suggest?
