Last weekend we released our new quiz feature. Throughout the week we’ve received tons of great feedback on what you love about quizzes and how we can enhance this new feature. Today we’re pleased to announce that based on the suggestions received, we’ve implemented the following updates to quizzes:
Preview quiz: Before you assign a quiz to your group, you now have the option to preview that quiz. When you select the preview quiz option (located below the assign quiz button), you can start a quiz and navigate through the questions, viewing the quiz, just as a student would view it.

Comments: When grading a quiz, you now have the option to provide comments back to the student. You can provide comments for each question and when students view their results, they will see those comments below each question.
In addition to these updates, we’ve put together a few new resources to help you learn more about quizzes.
- Frequently asked questions on quizzes
- Tips for creating quizzes
- How-to videos:
In the upcoming months we’ll continue to enhance the quiz functionality, while adding additional features on Edmodo, so please, keep those suggestions coming via our support community!
That’s it for quizzes this week — other updates include:
Printable Members Page: To support your classroom management needs, you can now generate printable rosters for each group. Under the Manage Group section, under Parents and Printer Friendly, select “Member List with Stats” to generate a report that lists your students, parent codes, # of badges awarded, and other statistics based on the criteria you select.
Edmodo in German: Also, you’ll now notice a German flag on the bottom of the Edmodo page. Select this flag to view Edmodo in German. Over the coming weeks and months we’ll be adding more languages to Edmodo – we’ll keep you updated as we release them. Special thanks to Matthias Heil, the Edmodo educator who completed the translation for the community! Thanks Matthias!

How I Use Edmodo Over the Summer to Prepare For the New Year

Another suggestion for quizzes as I tried it out yesterday and today with my classes: how about a place to put a word bank? The kids also were wondering if they could somehow mark that word bank for the words they used while taking the quiz so they could easily remember from item to item without having to switch back and forth so often. Great feature. So thankful you all are listening to your users and working on how Edmodo can make education interactive and hands-on for students!
Thanks for the feedback — word bank was suggested earlier in the week and I believe it’s on the roadmap. We have a bunch of items that are in the pipeline, so not sure what the delivery date for it is, but it’s on there!
So glad the word bank is on the way.
I use Edmodo for my own classes and for collaboration with other teachers in my department. Is it possible for us to share quizzes? I have been unable to find a way.
Currently quizzes cannot be shared.
I would love to see this feature, too! Imagine all the time we would save if we could share (and then edit, if we choose) quizzes found on Edmodo!
Please do consider including this feature in future updates. Maybe we could export the quizzes and other teachers can import them. Thanks!
I agree! I am in a training session right now with staff, and that is a very highly suggested point!!
I ♥ EDMODO. I was so excited about the addition of the quiz feature, but I’ve not had success in creating a quiz using various question types. Seems the multiple choice and true/false question stems work without error message.
However, whenever I create a fill in the blank and/or short answer question item, I get the following message in RED: This quiz has errors and cannot be assigned. Please fix the errors below. [hide]. It would be abundantly helpful to know WHAT ERRORS NEED FIXING…
Mrs. Waddell: Can you send a message to support@edmodo.com with your username and details on what’s happening? They can look at your account and help you resolve your issues.
I like this program but am having the same error when doing fill in the blank. I cannot get the underscore to work. in any browser I have. I ge tthis same error above here. Is there some code I need to use to put underscore into the question box?
I created a fill in the blank and did not have problems. I just used the underscore to make the blank as long as I wanted. Then, as I created each blank, I scrolled down and typed the answer into the box so I was sure to keep the right answers with the right blanks. Did you possibly not fill in the boxes?
When I go back in to edit a quiz, I would like the option of adding a new question before or after an already created question. Right now it simply adds any new questions to the end. Thanks!
I agree. It would be great to sort questions by type, to scramble questions and be able to arrage the question types.
I am trying my first Edmodo quiz tomorrow. Is there anyway to password protect the quiz? I have 4 sections and I don’t want them to have access to the quiz until their class meets. Is this possible?
I have them in small groups so I guess I should assign the quiz to the small group and not to the entire course.
Agreed– I would love that for discussion threads as well! Time-release so I can prepare on the weekend without kids adding to it!
Is there a way to add the option of not having a time limit on the quizzes or could this be considered?
Just discovered the new quiz feature and added a set quiz for my year 9 and year 8 classes. Wonderful! I’d love to see more abilities such as writing mathematical symbols and diagrams only because I’me a Math teacher. At the moment I can only create questions in words.
I think you need to put your correct answers in the red box where the blank space is, but in the reprinted question underneath. It seems to have worked for me.
I’m really loving the use of Edmodo with my students. The only thing that could make it even better is if French were added as a language! *hinthint!*
I’m really loving the use of Edmodo with my students. They are loving it too! The only thing that would make it even better is if French were added as a language option. *hint!*
what exactly is the point of edmodo
Hi, how do you prevent absent student’s from seeing the quiz you assigned to their class while they were at home?
I would be interested in this as well. I’ve had a few absent students jump in and take it at home, and I would really prefer that they take it at school. Any suggestions?
Hi all. I love the quiz feature, but how can I save the quiz (in a folder?) to draw on later or to share with other staff?
I am also very interested in this process. I have been creating quizzes and navigating away from them… this seems to save them somewhere… Also after posting a quiz and having students undertake it, I delete the entire quiz when I am finished (if I don’t require the results). The quiz still seems to store in the “load a previous quiz” area… but currently there does not seem to be a way to directly manage these quizzes from a “quiz library” area… this makes me nervous… I would like to be able to develop quizzes over time and post them when i have done editing and refining… but there doesn’t seem to be a ‘save’ function… This would be great!
I agree!
Can I suggest a “Randomize Question” button on quizzes, particularly multiple choice/true or false type of questions. This would help when all students are taking the same quiz in a lab setting where computers are set so close together.
Yes! I would very much like to see that option!
This will help protect from cheating and peering over a classmates computer.
Or consider randomizing the answers too. Hopefully, it doesn’t affect the analysis portion where we can see the breakdown of the questions.
That wil be excelent !!!!
As a matter of fact I would like to add something else:
1) The editor is limmited, I cann´t put subscripts or superscripts
2) Put some images into the question, it would help to understand a lot of thinks without so much text.
3) Open/Close quiz with date and hour defined
4) Define special folders to put questions over a specifc matter.
5) Merge questions and answers.
Hi Edmodo Folks,
Just started using Edmodo for my math classes and I love it! I have given a few quizzes and assignments.
It’s a bit of a challenge because I can’t cut and paste diagrams and math symbols.
Is it possible to enable me to do this?
In my 25 years of teaching, I have not seen anything as powerful as your site for assisting my teaching and getting at the heart of what teaching is all about.
You deserve the award, keep up the great work!
Regards,
Steve Bannister
I am loving the new quiz feature on Edmodo. I am using it quite often in my classes.
I was wondering if there is a way to view the question breakdown in more detail. For example: a list of all of the students, what each one answered, and percentage/amount of correct or incorrect answered. That would make it easier for me to analyze the student data.
Keep up the fabulous work! Thanks!
Hello. My students are loving Edmodo, and I tried the quiz option today for the first time as a practice for the real deal tomorrow. The problem is, I made a mistake with a fill-in-the-blank answer and I don’t see an option to edit the quiz now. Am I missing anything?
I just started edmodo today with my class and within an hour i had it up and running and the class charging ahead on it….it is an AWESOME web application…
I am can see a huge potential with this and I look forward to enhancements like “time-release” (quizzes written ahead of time, but not appearing until a certain date) and other things that people commented about in these posts….
thank you edmodo!!!!
Is there any way to print out a copy of the quiz questions to save a hard copy? I can’t figure it out.
I came to the forums looking for a method to print out the quiz too, or at least download or save a PDF file? I need to be able to keep records offline, and submit them to administration.
What about an option for number of retakes?
I was wanting to add matching questions. I usually put a screen shot of a picture up and then the students math the terms to the image. I did not see a matching option or a way to keep a picture embeded.
Another suggestion I just thought of is to have an option to scramble the questions and answer choices. I teach in a computer lab and it helps but down on cheating if the questions & answers are scrambled at random.
Yes please. Basic feature that should be a priority.
Is there a way we can share created quizzes with our teachers that are in our communities? For example I teach LA/SS with two other teachers and we want to share quizzes we create so we each don’t have to type it up.
I would love to have the option of copying a question and then altering it. That way if the question is very similar to another one you done have to start from scratch.
Please enable a print quiz feature.
I created a quiz for my students. I realized I had a typon on one of the questions after I assigned it. Can you go back and edit a question. Also, what if I wanted to add a few more questions to the quiz and assign it again later. Can you reuse the questions and edit the quiz? I do not want to have to retype the questions again. Can students take the quizzes from their phones. We tried to do that today and it does not appear to be an option.
Things I need to be able to do with QUIZZES:
1. Share with other teachers
2. Mix up the questions or answer options so they are not all taking the same quiz at the same time.
3. Print out the quiz in a hard copy if necessary.
4. Block absent students from taking it at home.
Dear Edmodo Team,
Thanks so much for making learning so much more fun!
My comment is regarding the quizzes. I recently created and sent a quiz to my students. It is great for them to see their results immediately and actually see where they went wrong. What a great open communication tool!
However, with regards to the short answer question option, it seems that Edmodo only has one standard format. I used the short answer question for students to list a number of points (using numbers to list) as well as to write a summary, but as soon as they submitted their quiz, the format in which they typed their answers changed into one big paragraph that is a bit hard to read or make sense of.
Is there any way that this feature could be improved?
Thanks.
Hi Natasha- Thanks for your feedback. We definitely plan to continue to enhance the quiz feature. I recommend you submit all feature requests to our support community at http://www.edmodo.com/community/support. All of this feedback is tracked and the more requests we get, the quicker it will be implemented!
I love the quiz feature, it is very useful, and for the most part will cover my needs. There are a few functions that need to be included to make this quiz feature entirely useable.
1. Quiz Grading. Allow the teacher grading each question to assign/override the points awarded. This would be used to correct fill in answers when the student type the answer in a different order than assigned in create quiz, or to adjust points awarded per question at the decision of the teacher grading.
2. Allow override to scoring on true/false or multiple choice questions, again the decision of the teacher.
Thanks, Mark
Thanks for the feedback Mark!
Hi there! Edmodo is amaazing!!
It’d be really great if edmodo gave us the option of formatting the font of questions in the quizzes
for a question to make sense such as comprehension or word bank type questions it would great if i could bold certain fonts and have more HTML control(?)
Like inserting an image using html because it’s hard to answer a question about an image if the students have to flip back and forth between a preview at the bottom
With “Fill in the blank” questions I can enter HTML and WYSIWYG in the question preview immediately below but when the quiz is published you see the raw html
Formatting capabilities would be excellent!!
I’ve seen it mentioned above, but teachers really need to be able to OVERRIDE the grading function. In other words, if a student answers a question a bit differently than expected, we really need to be able to tell the student/computer/edmodo that it should be counted as correct. Just about every other online quiz program has this feature. PLEASE add it! Thanks.
YES, PLEASE!
I would like to second the request above. I need to be able to accept answers that are just a little different, for example codominant for codominance. I can change the grade, but I mark the question as correct. I just need to be able to turn red answers green.
Three things that would be great for quizzes:
1. MATH equation editor to be able to put in functions.
2. Insert images into questions? I’m thinking JPGs of graphs for math.
3. Randomization of questions & perhaps answers too.
I am loving Edmodo – I integrated it fully into one class first semester and plan to do so with all 3 of my classes that will start for semester 2 in a few days. Thanks!
Hi Laura – All of these things are available.
1. You can use LaText language to type in math equations
2. If you add an image to your library first, you can then attach it to any quiz question or answer.
3. Randomized questions can be done by ticking the check box on the quiz creation page. That check box is on the right hand panel.
I would really like to see a multiple choice quiz with the function to select all answers that apply. This would really help as we move toward the Common Core standards, as it pushes the students to think critically about each response rather than simply find the single best response by process of elimination.
Thanks! Edmodo is great!
Three things I would like to do that I cannot seem to figure out:
1) I’d like to have an effective “save as” function” that allows me to have two versions of the same test before I have assigned it. I know that if I assign a test, I can then edit copies of it later and save those under a new name. But I need to be able to create my base test, save it pending assignment, and then modify it for EC students in specific ways. Right now I have to go back through and re-create the second version by selecting questions and changing them.
2) I’d love to be able to merge previously saved quizzes into one quiz. for example, I currently have unit quizzes/tests for 3 distinct units from a past semester. This semester, I am testing those three units together and want to merge the three tests before I then modify them.
3) There should be a way to grant students the point on fill in the blank questions in the case of a simple spelling error. As is, if a student even forgets to make a term plural, they are counted wrong and I have no way within edmodo to award credit.
I have a question. I successfully assigned and graded a quiz. I would like to print the data that I see on the screen. The screen shows the percentage of students who got the answer correct and incorrect. I can’t seem to print what I need. I basically would like to print the question breakdown that’s on the quiz overview.
