Last week we released a new annotation feature that allows teachers to make comments and edits on student assignments. We received a number of questions about how this new feature works, so we’ve created this how-to video to help.

Will students be able to annotate on something I assign?
I want them to draw the lines of two point perspectiove on a jpeg photo.

The annotate feature is not showing up for Excel projects my students uploaded. it would be nice to have this feature added for ALL files, not just documents.
I totally agree. This was one of the whole reasons I was going to switch from Moodle to Edmodo. Rather than having students print a graph, I have them upload it. It was always hard to grade online, so I had to have a paper rubric. I liked the idea of doing it all online.
I think this sounds like a great idea, but I can’t figure out how to make it work with ipads. My classes are part of a 1 to1 grant, so every student has an ipad and we use them for almost all writing assignments. The assignments and worksheets I give them are in pages, and I can’t figure out how to annotate. Any help would be much appreciated!
@Ruth On the iPad, the only annotation that works is the “pointed comment”. All other annotations (strikethrough, highlight, etc.) do not work.
I tried to annotate student work on my iPad and it wouldnʻt work… I could open the document, but when I clicked on the annotate button I got a screen that said “Preview not available; the document could not be found”
Actually, scratch that, annotation isnʻt working on my Mac either. Not sure whatʻs up…
Currently I can not view any student work I annotated. Whats up?
Annotate is a great feature! My only complaint is that it is not included in the ipad app. Until then, the app is worthless to me. But for now I use a Wacom tablet connected to my computer to draw annotations. It works pretty well for me. I would definitely would like this feature to work on the ipad app though.
I love this feature. This took Edmodo to another level for me as an educator, and persuaded me to make this the main online complement to my classroom instruction. My kids find the submission and grading process seamless now, and so do I. Keep up the awesome work!
I would love this feature except for the fact all my students are required to use Pages instead of Word. Do you think that you will have the option to annotate Pages documents and PDFs any time soon?

Can other students from the same group see each others assignments? and the anotations i post to these?

My students were allowed to choose any font to produce their document today and I found that many did not display correctly when I viewed them in annotate. Should they be limited on fonts to avoid this in the future?
Is it available for French users? I can’t seem to find the annotate tab…
How do I get the annotate option when the students post their assignments. I see it here, but on my account, I can’t see it. Where do I get this option from?
When you select the student’s name from the Assignment Overview page, you should see the annotate option under the assignment title. If you did not see it, please contact support [at] edmodo [dot com]
Sometimes when my students turn in an assignment, the annotate feature is not available, only download is. Why does that occur?
Me too: no annotation option for an .odt document,which is supposed to be supported? Only Download appears.
I have had the same problem with two submissions and also think it must be the file type – both files finished in odp pr odt – which is a file type I am unfamiliar with. I’ll let you know when we sort it out!
It may be that the file type is not supported. You may want to email our support team for further information on supported file types and browsers.
Is there anything in the works so that teachers can customize and have easy access to comments they frequently use? (You can do this through macros in Word)

I love annotating on student work; however, I have tried downloading their work with my annotations on safari and firefox, and when it downloads all I see are black boxes where I have left annotations. What is happening? How do I download and save these pieces with my annotations in tact?
When you make annotations to an assignment, there is no need to download it. All you need to do is exit out of the browser tab and the annotations are saved automatically. However, if you do want to download the annotated assignment, you should be able to see the annotations you made. I recommend you contact our support team and they can help analyze the issue.

Great feature, but like some of the other people who commented I would like to know if/when multiple file types (.pages, .pdf, etc) will be supported. Does anybody know where I can find this information?

I have just recently started using edmodo. I have no problem making annotations on student files – either .docx or .pdf – but my students are unable to view these annotations. When I pull the file up on my account the comments are there but when they try to view the graded file, they get an error. When they click on the filename itself or on download, their work is there but the comments are not. Any ideas?

How do you get to that page?
I really like the annotation feature, wherein teachers can comment on work submitted by students. I would love to have students share an assignment in a small group and comment on each other’s work, helping each other revise their papers, using the annotation feature. Are there any plans to enable annotation between students?
Also, when I post a text comment bubble in a paper I am grading, the “reply” option comes up. Am I meant to reply to my own comments? I would love for students to have the option of replying to comments I have made, to open up a dialogue about their writing.
I love EDMODO! I just accessed this wonderful tool yesterday and the kids are doing well with posting on-line. The annotation option is wonderful, but why can’t I annotate on my iPad? It would be so much easier to use my stylus instead of a mouse. Instead of carting around my laptop, I hope edmodo or mac get up to speed on making this tool all the more accessible to students and teachers.
Is there anyway to print an annotated version (my annotations) of the student’s assignments? I’ve tried downloading their work both as a PDF and a doc.x file but in neither case do my comments print properly…..
Would appreciate any advice!!!!
I am also having the problem of not always seeing the annotate option, even when assignments are saved as the same type of file. (Just the option to download file, which doesn’t then give annotate option either).
Any ideas? I am finding Edmodo really useful, but this is a bit of a stumbling block.
