Update on Parent Accounts
Posted by: Edmodo
We want to welcome the thousands of parents who have joined Edmodo in the week since we launched the new simplified dashboard. We’ve not only seen an increase in registrations, but a significant increase in daily logins. We’re thrilled to see this kind of rapid engagement from parents.
Based on feedback from teachers, administrators and parents, we’re making a few additional changes to better serve the entire Edmodo community.
1. Restoring visibility of direct messages between teachers and students. In our efforts to streamline the parent dashboard, it looks like we got a little overzealous. Based on your recommendations we will enhance the new parent dashboards to include students’ direct communications with their teachers. It may take us a week or two to add this functionality, but rest assured it’s on its way. Thanks to members of the Edmodo community for pointing out so quickly the need to include these types of messages in the dashboard.
2. Restoring teacher-parent messaging: After discussions with teachers and administrators and a review of how parent accounts were being used, we made some changes that we believed would allow us to meet the needs of as many users as possible. Based on your feedback, we’ll be making additional enhancements. We will be adding back the ability for teachers and parents to directly communicate with one another on Edmodo. With the release of the new parent dashboards, teachers and administrators are still able to send out messages to all of the parents they are connected to and in the next version of the parent dashboards which we are working on right now teachers will have the option to turn on parent direct communication. We’ll keep you updated on the timeline for the release of these features.
Thanks so much for your continued feedback. We’re pleased to see so many parents engaging with Edmodo via the simplified Parent Dashboard and hope these additional enhancements will provide even further value.

Back to allow communication between teachers and parents is fantastic.

It’s great!

Thanks, Edmodo for being so responsive to suggestions in revising parental accounts! I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much!!! I can’t tell you how happy I am that a company actually listened to its users and will follow through with upgrades to allow everyone to have a better experience. I look forward to using Edmodo more frequently!!!!
Yay!
You guys ROCK!!! Thank you, as a parent and a teacher, for bringing back the direct parent-teacher communication. I really appreciate it!!!
Edmodo,
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for doing this. It really means that I have chosen a great product to use in my classroom and to share with my students and parents.
I don’t know if this is already being considered, but I’m sure lots of people would also like all the posts made ‘public’ in a child’s group to appear in a parent’s ‘latest posts’ stream too, like it used to. Parents can currently access these posts by clicking on their child’s profile, clicking on the ‘groups’ tab and then clicking on a group name – this however seems a little long-winded to encourage them to look at posts that have likely been made public to showcase some good work.
I agree, this would be a lot easier for parents and our Learning Support Assitants!
I just signed up for Edmodo. Question re parent accounts. Is there a way to see how many parent accounts I have. Right now they seem to be mixed in with student accounts.
Thanks!
I am so excited to see that the parent notification of direct messages between students and teachers is working again! I am wondering if and when the parents will be emailed a notification when a teacher DM a student. I have a fictional student and parent account set up and when I send that student a test DM the parent account did not get an email notification even though the option has been selected in the settings to receive email notifications for DM, alerts, etc.
Thanks!
Will parents be able to see posts made to their student’s class, but not necessarily to them? For example, sometimes I post homework resources to just my class. In the past parents could see these as well, but now they cannot.
Thank you for attending to my query on posting directly to our kids or teachers where we will be able to communicate with teachers and every one else when needed.
As a parent we are unable to create a profile similar to that of teachers or students.
We would appreciate if we could also see the communication between our kids and teacher on our login for the added kids on our board.
Thanks for all the improvements you make !!
However, I have just recently discovered that students can see their parents codes in their pages !! I guess this was not available to students before !!!
Is there a way I can change this (Keep parents codes hidden from students) , as I see it’s not practical at all !!!
Thanks again,
Greetings!
How does a parent communicate to the teacher via Edmodo?
A parent can no longer communicate to the teacher via Edmodo.
Can I (teacher) send a note to one parent and can a parent send a message to me. Did you add this to the parents accounts.
No, this is not possible.
Hi there,
In the January 27th post on parent accounts, it says that direct messaging between parents and teachers is going to be re-enabled, and that a timeline for this would be announced. It’s now 4 months later, and I’m curious if this is still going ahead. It’s a very valuable feature, and I know that many teachers and parents were hoping it would be brought back. Any news on this front?
Yes, we still have plans to restore it, but it may not be done until Fall. I don’t have an exact timeline, but you can check back with our support team later this summer.
Will parents be able to see what their child has posted? Not just to the teacher, but all their activity? When I go on Edmodo as a parent (I was testing the website before Iaunch it with my class), parents can go their child’s profile. There is says About/Activity/Groups. Under Activity, nothing is listed but my “tester” child made plenty of posts and replies. Will this be available for parents. I have parents who want to monitor their children carefully, so they want this to be part of the condition of their child using Edmodo.
Is the direct communication between teacher and parent working now? I can’t seem to figure out how to do this.
It is not available yet.
What is the timeline for the parent/teacher communication? It was asked about in May 2012 and again in September 2012. Is this a feature that is still on the table?
The features is still on the roadmap, however, we do not have a timeline.
Is there any plans to allow parents to see postings to the entire class from teachers. I post my nightly hw assignments this way and I would like parents to get the updates as well.
