Today, we’re excited to introduce the latest version of Edmodo. We listened to your feedback and added new features that will make it simpler to connect with resources, and get insight into how students feel about assignments, classroom discussions and shared content. We also made the features you love even more powerful. We will be rolling out the latest version to all of our users over the next few weeks.

Here’s a peek at what’s new:

Connect with other teachers who are teaching the same things as you and easily find content to use in your classroom. Now it’s easier to discover and surface content you need, at the moment you need it.

We took the idea of a “Like” button and made it more informative and more actionable. Insights is designed to help you get a pulse on your classroom.  Hear how your students are feeling and quickly respond to student work and discussions.

Activity Stream
The new activity stream makes it even easier to manage your classrooms with Edmodo.  See all activity from your students and your connections in real-time.

Groups, Planner and Progress Report
Lastly, we’ve made the features you love even more powerful, including:

  • Groups: We’ve centralized group functions, putting everything that you need to create and deliver courses in one place. Now you can share folders and manage small groups, all with one click.
  • Planner: Formerly known as the Calendar, the planner allows you to see your schedule in multiple views and create task lists for yourself.
  • Progress Report: Formerly known as the Gradebook, the Progress Report houses the traditional gradebook and also allows you to track student badges.

We hope you enjoy the latest version of Edmodo! Visit to learn more.

As always, we value your feedback. Please feel free to share your thoughts in our Support Community.

  2. Lisa Gaunt says:

As a new user, I’m super excited to learn all I can. In reading about the update, I find that I must still have an “old” version since I hace a calendar and not a planner. Any suggestions?

    • Kalifa says:

You should just download the latest version to your computer and sooner or later you will get the hang of using the new version, which I find rather better than the old because everything within a click of a button.

GOOD LUCK and welcome to Edmodo

  3. Andrew Campbell says:

I’m not seeing any changes today. Is this being rolled out? When? I’m introducing students to Edmodo. I don’t want to have to reteach it.

  4. Excellent news and job, Edmodo! Thanks.

  5. Wsensenich says:

So glad that you are constantly improving edmodo. Cannot wait until these features start.

  6. Cmcgowan says:

Will there be a feature for threaded discussions yet? That was promised last year and I’m still praying 🙂

  7. Jan Wells says:

WOW…..this is super exciting 🙂 I can’t wait to see the new changes. Thanks Edmodo!

  8. Isaac Masih says:

Awesome! Are there any changes being made to the testing features?

  9. Cheryl Geddie says:

My daughter, Indeya Geddie, is in Mrs. Walker’s fourth period class. We are excited about this school year!

  10. Alice says:

In the new version, It is no longer possible to have Gif’s as your Profile picture! Gif’s made profiles interesting, and I hope that they can be returned.
    Thank you very Much

  11. Raym says:

Just rolled over to the new version which is great. Applied the change across all my groups. Prior to rolling over, everything was running fine, but we’re running into some issues with the new version, noticeably, group code entry (“please wait” spinning icon that does not turn over) and inability for students to vote. I can revert to the old version, but my groups are still on the new. Our lab machines run on IE8.

  12. wise says:

Is there any way to turn the gradebook off? I am posting assignments for students but I am not grading them and it looks like they have 0’s on all of those assignments.

  13. BrianM says:

I loaded the new versions 3 times. It is full of bugs. I will wait a week and try again.

  14. Michael M. says:

When can I switch over to the newest version for me? I see it pop up, and go away every now and then, and it’s a little weird. Is there a button to let me switch as a student? 🙂

    • luciagia says:

You cannot switch over as a student. Once a teacher has switched over all his/her students will have the latest version. Everyone should have access within the next few weeks!

  15. Sitllwell says:

I love the look of the new verison; however, I immediately switched back to the older version when I discovered that my students are Required to make a comment And select an icon regarding their opinion of the assignment before it will let them submit that assignment. I, nor my students, have the time to worry about such stuff. I will be using the older version as long as possible.

  16. Mr. Allen says:

I notice i still haven’t gotten the update. It came out on the fourth of september. And now it is Sept 15. When will I be able to get the latest update?

    • Underhill says:

Mr. Allen, I’m with you. It’s October 15, I’ve been using Edmodo quite a long time, and I’m not able to use the new version. There must be quite a lot of technical issues they didn’t plan for.

  17. DP says:

Many of my students are seeing the “new” version when they log in, but I have not seen it at all. It is confusing for them, and stressful for me, because they are asking all sorts of questions! When will we be able to get it, too?

  18. Pam Brennan says:

I’m wondering if folders will be able to have subfolders in them with this new version? That would be super!

  19. cassidy says:

GIFs cannot be used in this new version of edmodo. They made profile pictures fun and I would REALLY like to have them back.

  20. Stuti Mehta says:

  22. Paul says:

I am wondering how come or when I will be able to access the new version on my iPad. I am able to access it via my PC, yet the iPad/tablet version does to allow me to access discover or any of the other great options in the new version.

  23. Dhruba says:

What happened to how many posts and replies you have?

  24. Ha sir says:

The best educational collaboration platform ever met! and it’s free!

  25. Hardeep says:

Can you please add an ability to create a webpage…

    • Awesome Girl says:

It would be so awesome if we could make our own webpages!!:)

    • mark says:

The ability to FTP web pages and dependent recourses wwould be brilliant. Then I could create a sequence of learning content on edmodo rather than redirecting to an external site.

  26. Kalpan says:

where is the library in new edmodo

  27. Awesome Girl says:

Awesome. Thanks for the latest and greatest in technology.

  28. Joao Santos says:

Hi, can someone tell if this new version has already a portuguese translation? I would like to upgrade but i’m afraid that without a portuguese translation kids won’t do the tasks!

  29. Filip says:

I do not have the new version!! I never got an email… What shall i do now?

  30. Rachel Fein says:

Does the new version of Edmodo stop students from turning in late assignments? I have a lot of students that tried to turn in an assignment late but couldn’t.

  31. Miranda L. says:

It would be nice if you could bring back gifs. We were disappointed when we found you couldn’t use them anymore.

  32. Danilo Faiazza says:

I introduced Edmodo to some colleagues and on their version (that they downloaded yesterday), they have the APP icon. My version does not. How do I get updated to the newest version that includes the APP icon?

  33. Celine says:

could you please add gifs back in?

they were so fun to look at and to show off.
Ever since the new version came out me and other people around the world are really disappointed.

and if i may ask why are they removed?
there must be a good reason why it doesn’t work anymore.

anyway, thanks for the new technology

  34. Daniel says:

PLEASE BRING BACK GIF PROFILE PICTURES! They added another fun aspect to edmodo and our school was sad to see them go…

  35. Amy says:

    they were so kewl…

  36. Aimee says:

I don’t know why they don’t allow gifs as profile pics anymore because they were fun.

  37. Ciara says:

What if my edmodo doesn’t have a create button only join?? Please help!!

  38. Ann says:

Great tool for students and teachers alike.

  39. Stephanie H says:

Sounds good! I look forward to it!

  40. Angie says:

I enjoyed using Edmodo last year with my students. They could not wait to get their next assignment and post on our class group. I would like to know how to award badges.

  41. Lucas says:

  46. raehik says:

are you kidding: any GIFs uploaded are converted to PNGs, even in assignment reports T__T
that is dumb and lazy behaviour, please consider changing :<

  47. Bring back the gifs! At least tell us why you removed them!
