It’s now easier to navigate profile pages and share more information about yourself with your students and teacher connections.

Teacher Profiles

Your teacher profile page acts like a portfolio where you can highlight your interests, accomplishments, and more. The section at the top remains the same, housing your profile picture, school, grade level, and key Edmodo stats including number of students, teacher connections, library items and sharing score.

All other information within the teacher profile has been reorganized into three tabs:

Profile Overview - See Teacher Badges you’ve earned, your Collections (student badges and favorites), and keep your About Me section up-to-date.

Communities – Get easy access to all the communities you follow, as well as a link that takes you to the full list of subject area and publisher communities.

Connections – See all your teacher connections and easily invite teachers to Edmodo by using the “Invite Other Teachers” link.

Student Profiles

Student profiles have also been updated with the top section displaying the student’s profile picture, school, and Edmodo stats including number of posts/replies, groups and badges earned.

Additional information is broken out into five tabs:

Many of you have asked about adding your tweets into your Edmodo group stream. This is a great way to update your Twitter followers and your Edmodo group members at the same time. A great use-case example would be if you run a PLN group and you want to share interesting links, articles and resources with your Twitter followers as well as members of your PLN on Edmodo. Follow the steps below for a quick and easy solution.

Add Your Twitter Feed to Your Edmodo Group Stream

Add your twitter handle to the end of this link:

http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=Type your Twitter handle here

Edmodo example: http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.rss?screen_name=edmodo

Copy the link

Visit your Edmodo group and select the “Subscribe Group to Feed” link located on the right column of the page under your Join Group URL

Paste the link from step 1 into the feed address box and hit subsribe

It’s as simple as that!

Note that it may take up to 24 hours to start seeing your tweets in your group stream.

Edmodo enables you to quickly and easily create groups for each of your classes so that you can collaborate and share content in a safe environment. After your create a group, you can invite your students into the group by sharing the six digit group code or the join group URL.

Auto Locking Group Codes
As part of our routine safety procedures, all group codes will now automatically lock 14 days after the group was created or after the code is reset. This is to ensure your groups are safe and keeps you in full control. Don’t fret though, you can unlock the group code at anytime to add additional students, without affecting students who have already joined.

Lock/Unlock Groups
To manually lock or unlock your group, select the lock icon located to the right of your group code. Note that if your group has been locked and you need to unlock it, the group code will automatically reset.

Best Practices
Follow these safety best practices to keep your groups safe:

Share the group code privately and only with the students in your class

Provide the “Join Group URL.” This allows you to approve or deny each new member.

Remember to lock the group code once you’ve added all your students

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean when my group is locked?
When a group is locked, nobody can join the group. However, all existing members in the group will still remain in the group. No need to worry, you can always unlock the group code to add additional students without affecting any students who are already members.

Does locking a group change my Join Group URL?
No. Your Join Group URL (located directly under your group code) will always be the same. You can distribute this Join Group URL to anyone you would like to join the group. When a user clicks the join group URL, you will receive a notification to approve or deny that user’s membership into the group.

I have a Professional Development group, how should I get teachers onboard?
For PD groups, we suggest distributing the Join Group URL or posting this Join Group URL in a public place.

I am organizing a “Powered by Edmodo” conference and have already created groups for all of the sessions, what should I do?
If you are leading a “Powered by Edmodo” conference that is happening soon, please let us know immediately by emailing institutions@edmodo.com. We will ensure the group codes do not lock until after the conference.

To learn about product updates, please visit the “What’s New” section of our help center.

Edmodo is a great place to connect with other educators and discover the cool ways they’re bringing digital content to the classroom. You can also stay in touch with teachers across your school and district.

Selecting your school on Edmodo helps you find teachers who are in your school or district and makes it even easier to expand your professional learning network (PLN).

Follow these easy steps to select your school on Edmodo:

Go to the “Account” dropdown and select “Settings”

Click the “Choose School” or “Change School” button

Select the country that your school is located in and search for your school by zip code, city/state or school name

Choose your school from the list – if your school is listed more than once, select the school with a green check mark next to it.

You’re all set! Here are a few commonly asked questions from our support team:

What if my school is not listed as an option?
If your school is not yet listed, click the “Add it here” button below the search results. Enter the information for your school and choose that school to add to your account.

My school or district has an Edmodo subdomain, what should I do to add my school?
If your school belongs to an Edmodo subdomain (e.g, has a unique Edmodo URL for you to log into such as SampleDistrict.edmodo.com), you must have the school code to associate your account with that school or district. You can contact your district or school administrator to receive the code.

I teach at more than one school, can I add them all?
If you teach at more than one school, you can only choose one school. We recommend adding the additional schools to the “About Me” section of your profile (click on “Profile” next to “Account” on the top toolbar).

How do I change my selected school?
If you need to change your school, you can do so by following the same steps above – in step 2, select “Change School.”

Building a personal learning network (PLN) is a great way to exchange ideas, share resources, collaborate and get inspired. Teacher connections can be made with various web tools like Edmodo and Twitter, but did you know you can easily create a PLN within your district through Edmodo?

The following video shows how Edmodo can bring teachers together from across schools and districts. The dots that appear represent teachers creating an Edmodo account. The lines represent when a teacher connects with another teacher on Edmodo.

Watch what happens to the dots when the district claims their Edmodo subdomain!

Note: The district represented in the video is Cumberland County Schools in North Carolina. The district has 5,500 teachers on Edmodo!

Our support team recently noticed a higher volume of teachers asking about how to keep Edmodo Groups secure so we’ve put together some best practices to follow when creating your groups:

1. Lock your groups: Once all of your students have joined your group, remember to lock the group. This will ensure no other members can join. Learn more.

2. Keep group codes private: Never post a group code publicly (i.e. on Twitter or your class website). If the code is posted, you should remove it and reset the code immediately to ensure that non-members do not get access to your group. In lieu of posting a group code, we encourage you to share the “join group URL”, which allows you to approve or deny members. Learn more.

3. Set up a school or district subdomain: Having a subdomain allows all communication within your school or district to be viewed by administrators, providing full disclosure for teachers and students. It also enables better communication between schools in your district. Encourage your district administrator to sign up for a school or district subdomain, or, if you are a district administrator, claim a subdomain today.

Notifications are a great way to keep a pulse on conversations happening in your Edmodo Groups. Here’s a quick guide on how to enable (or disable) notifications:

Managing Notifications by Type (Posts, Replies, Direct Messages, Alerts)

Select the “Account” drop-down arrow on your Edmodo toolbar.

Click the “Settings” option in the drop-down menu.

Select the “Email and Text Updates” tab.

From this tab you can choose:

Notification Type – Choose e-mail or text message from the dropdown to edit.

E-mail - Email notifications are sent to the email address associated with your Edmodo account.

Text Message – Enter your phone number and verify it to enable text alerts. (Note: Text notifications are only available for users in the U.S. and Canada.)

Notifications – Select which notifications you want to receive by checking the box located next to each option. Notifications are available for: alerts, notes, direct messages, replies, new group members and group join requests. Disable notifications by unchecking the box.

Be sure to hit save to apply your changes! Learn more in our Help Center.

Managing Notifications by Group

Notifications can be overwhelming, and it’s helpful to manage notifications by group:

Select the group from your group list

Click on the “Group Notification Settings” link on the right panel of the group’s communication stream (below the group settings option).

Select (or deselect) the “send notifications” option

Repeat for any other groups you would like to enable (or disable) notifications for. Learn more in our Help Center.
