At first, we didn’t dare to even think about the possibility of being the DEN March Madness Mashup 2011 Champions. But over the past week, as we saw incredible tools like Voicethread, Animoto, Voki and iMovie fall by the wayside — well — I guess we dared to hope. And when we suddenly found ourselves in the Championship Game — that hope became a dream.
And then Glogster resoundingly trounced us in the final game.
Luckily, we’re young. We bounce back. And. . . we think Glogster is great too. And here’s why:
It’s incredibly hard to find ways to allow students to express their creativity. In this world of standardize testing, assessment, and racing to the top, the opportunities for students to show their artistic sides are far and few between. Glogster provides students an outlet for creativity while providing teachers with meaningful formative assessment data to monitor learning and ensure students are moving up that all important ladder of Bloom’s Taxonomy.
But really, it’s also just incredibly fun to use:) If you’ve never used Glogster before, think of it as a digital poster – students can create multimedia projects by adding drag and drop images, text, symbols and designs to a page. With one press of a button, presto! Instant Glog! (e.g Graphic-Blog)
And even more exciting – at the bottom of every Glog, you can select “Edmodo This!” to send your Glog right into your Edmodo stream. Over on the Glogster community in Edmodo, hundreds of teachers are sharing their Glog creations — so please check them out!
So…Congratulations GlogsterEDU — it was a fun week of competition (well, until suddenly it wasn’t fun at all;)
And thanks especially to the Discovery Educator Network for continuing to expose educators around the world to new and emerging tools that are truly making a difference in the classroom!
Hopefully everyone has been inspired to try out at least one new tool this week. Thanks to all who voted — we will proudly take the runner’s up trophy (THIS year. Next year we’re totally winning this thing.)
PS. To all of you who said “We love Edmodo too!”….hey, thanks, that’s cool. We’ll even settle for having you ‘Like” us.
