Congratulations to Edmodo educator Valencia Robinson! One of People Magazine’s 2013 Teachers of the Year, Robinson is passionate about working with students of all backgrounds, from the at-risk, to those impacted by homelessness, autism, ADD, and ADHD.
A seventh- and eighth-grade intensive reading teacher at New Smyrna Beach Middle School in the Volusia County school district, Robinson uses Edmodo to motivate students and witnesses its positive impact firsthand. “It’s amazing to see my students engaged, motivated, and working,” Robinson says. “I just walk around and assist as needed. They don’t mind logging into Edmodo and completing their assignments.”
Now, students love coming to class and, thanks to grants acquired by Robinson, have access to iPads and laptops that let them get straight to work. And with an average 55 to 60 percent increase in standardized scores under her tutelage, it’s clear that Robinson’s tireless efforts to get involved at an individual level—both academically and personally—makes a difference.
“I always think of you as the teacher who cares,” one student wrote of Robinson. “It’s like you see the diamond underneath and you’ll be damned if you let it go.”
