Our Commitment to Fighting for Racial Justice

For so long, so many of us have been filled with grief and anger, swelling to a breaking point in the last few weeks. But there have also been bright moments of togetherness, hope, and solidarity that move us forward. To everyone in the Black community, we stand in solidarity with you and the Black Lives Matter movement, and we are committed to fighting for justice.

We are heart-sickened by the killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and too many others whose names and lives we will always remember. It is well past the time to end racial discrimination and everyday injustices against Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Edmodo is a global community and it is our diversity that strengthens us.

As a platform that brings learning communities together, we strongly believe that education is the most powerful way to fight racial injustice. We know that rooting out racism starts by educating ourselves on the history, struggles, and triumphs of the Black community, and listening to our Black peers to learn about how they experience the world. As educators and parents, we also play an important role in engaging our students in conversations about systemic racism and how we can be the voice that changes our world. Learning from each other and with each other is what brings us together. Only then will lasting change happen.

As a learning platform, Edmodo can provide a space for classrooms to have conversations that change our narratives around race and inspire pathways to justice. As a network, Edmodo can offer an opportunity for teachers to engage in much-needed dialogue and share resources. If you would like to be a part of a conversation, tell a story, or share a resource with other teachers, we can start by gathering here

In the past week, we have had many internal conversations to examine the ways that we, as a company, can stand up and work against systemic inequality, primarily focusing on our education system. We are starting to implement a program for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within our company and are having open conversations about how to best serve our diverse community. We are also curating a selection of educational resources about racial justice from organizations and educators to share with the Edmodo community.

We promise, this is only the beginning for us. Stay strong and safe. We’re in this together.
